Anna has a best friend at school. Her name is Amelia, and funnily enough, they look incredibly alike. Anna and Amelia have sort of become the ring leaders at school, but what's interesting is that Amelia is the naughty one, Anna is her good conscience. The other day, Jodi (Anna's teacher) informed me that she heard Anna say a swear word. Unfortunately, once Anna and Amelia started saying it, all the other kids followed. Jodi described it as the whole classroom 'chanting' - imagine a whole group of little kids yelling "f***ing hell!".
I asked Anna about it, and although she was cheeky in her response, she was quick to say that Amelia had told her the word.
Today, however, Anna was sad. She told me that Amelia was not her best friend anymore, and that Mia was Amelia's best friend today instead. She told me that it made her sad. I told her that she can still be Amelia's friend and also Mia's friend. And there are lots of other lovely kids to play with there too. But inside, my heart was breaking. No one tells you how heartbreaking it is when your child has friendship woes.
and there will be more heartbreak to come. It's the most painful thing in the world, to see your child's forlorn face and hear their sad little voice, caused by the cruel indifference of another.
