The Best Things In Life...

Sometimes it's hard for people to see the best things in life are free. If you're as poor as us, you've really got to take advantage of the good things. Of a Sunday afternoon, daddy's not working, and the sun is shining - we lay out the back on the picnic rug and indulge in the moment. We have no food in the fridge but we all enjoy some of Anna's vanilla custard.

We went for a walk around our block. We're starting to get used to our area, and finding the little things about it that we like and could get used to. We walk past Coral Park Primary School, and the Kindergarten, and talk about the possibility of Anna going there. It literally backs onto our house, so it would be a great place to send Anna, and any future children we have.

Speaking of which, many people have been asking us when number two is coming - not any time soon. I want to be able to enjoy having my baby girl and give her the attention she deserves. When she's old enough to ask for a brother or sister, then we might consider it.

Anna's smile is the best thing ever - and that doesn't cost a cent.

The best things in life are free.

My First Mother's Day

It was only when I got to celebrate my first mother's day that I realised why that day existed. I think as a kid, you're somewhat ungrateful of just how much care, time and effort your mother puts in, and when it comes to mother's day, you know the routine, you try not to annoy her too much, you make an effort to clean up after yourself and you'll get her a gift - depending on the age will determine how home made it is. But you really don't understand the value of mother's day until you experience it for yourself.

I had a great day. Adam made me breakfast in bed - nothing fancy, but it was perfect. It was my usual. Coffee and two pieces of toast with fig jam. It was funny though, just as Adam got up to make me breakfast, Anna woke up. So she joined us for breakfast in bed, which was rather nice. She is the reason I got the celebrate this day.

Then we went to Chadstone for some window shopping and a stroll, a rare event - Anna is usually crying and Adam would be complaining. But it was Mother's day, so everyone was well behaved.

And Adam bought me an Eternity ring. I reckon I deserved a bit of bling on mother's day!

Then we went over to Pa and Tiff's house for a feast - They made sure that my first Mother's day was one to remember. And I also got a 1 hour massage voucher - a proper one, not one written by hand that'll never be redeemed :) And we had Pa's world famous roast and a passionfruit cheesecake with mango sauce and mousse. It was nice to celebrate mother's day with Dad and Tiff, and Lauren and Jason, as my mum's currently in Europe. And Lauren soaked up the occasion, she scored some chocolates and a massage too! Fair enough, she cares for 25 kids every day. But it's when you push one out that you then get breakfast in bed.

Well to a memorable mother's day - thank you to Adam, for not letting me down and for giving me the best thing in life - my baby girl. And to my daughter of course, you are the reason I get this day, it's a mother's right of passage, and something that only mother's can enjoy (and Lauren's) and even without this day, you give me mother's day every day.

And after I soaked up all the novelties of the day, I say 'I am so worth this!', and I deserve the title,

Time with Dada.

Anna is very verbal - she loves singing and talking away - and she's mastered 'dadada' - any guess as to what her first word'll be?

Adam seems to make Anna smile and laugh - she clearly loves time with Dada.

It's really nice, as a mother, to see my daughter with her father. I don't know if its universal for all mothers to love seeing their children with their father, but it's a really lovely thing, and one of those moments that you just stop to admire and appreciate - one that you will always remember.

I know that I never remembered who I spent time with when I was young, I didn't know that mum didn't work and stayed home with us kids, I didn't know that dad worked two jobs to keep a roof over our heads. So I'm hoping that this blog will show you, Anna, what your life was like when you were a baby. Your mummy stayed at home and cared for you, and your daddy worked hard to provide for us. And he always had time for you. I know that whenever he has a bad day at work, he'll always give you a hug, and that seems to make it all better. It's amazing that you can make a grown man cry. I know he believes you are the best thing that has every blessed his life.

And here's a secret between you and me, you'll have daddy wrapped around your little finger, trust me!

Teething, But No Teeth

Anna has been showing signs of teething for a few weeks now, but the teeth just don't seem to be showing up. She's got bright red cheeks, she's drooling over everything, she's chewing away on her toys - but still no teeth.

Bare in mind, she doesn't actually like the dummy, she never uses it, but she certainly likes chewing on it!

She got a great little toy from Pa and Tiff, it's Sophie the Giraffe from Paris. She's a perfect size for little hands to grip onto and lots of little nobs for sore gums to gnaw on. She loves her Sophie.

And speaking of Paris, Nanna Lou sent her a gorgeous little outfit from a boutique in Paris, she'll look so cute in it. And she also sent her a music box that plays the French Cancan, and she just loves it! She talks to it as it plays.

I'm sort of glad though, as I can't imagine breastfeeding would be much fun as soon as those little teeth come through!

So Tired

I've noticed that trying to maintain this blog is hard work. I'm finding I'm so tired lately and my hands are always full that I'm doing bulk blogs of a Sunday afternoon during Anna's nap.

I'll try and keep up, I want to make sure that every important day, every event is documented on this blog, because it's really for Anna, for when she gets older.

Anna's been great lately. Despite the sudden change in sleeping patterns, as she's now waking up at least once a night and again at 6am, which we're not used to, she's a delight to have.

She's been spending a lot of time at Pa's house while mummy has doctors appointments and scans and so forth, so it's been really handy to have such great baby sitters on hand.

I've been having issues with my thyroid, which might explain why I'm so tired lately, and recently I had a radioactive iodine uptake scan, which meant that I had to keep away from Anna for 12 hours. This meant that Adam had to take care of Anna over the night. This was interesting. He did a great job, and it was nice to have a night off, even though she was up till 4am, which meant we were too. But none the less, it was nice to have a bit of a break.

But anyway this blog is just a bit of an update - I'll try and post some more today.

Bath Time

Anna loves bath time. She always has!

Now she can sit up in the bath and play with her toys. She'll be in the bath for up to an hour sometimes!

Happy Jumping!

Recently we got Anna a jolly jumper. It took two tries for her to work out how much fun it can be!
N0w she jumps like a kangaroo! She's so happy when she's in her jumper. She'll happily stay in her jumper till she goes to bed, and even when she's tired and cranky she'll keep jumping!

Speaking of bed, she's now dropped her morning nap, and is only sleeping about 3 hours during the day. So I'm lucky to get anything done. She generally wakes up at about 9am, and is up until 1pm. Sleeps till about 3pm and is awake till about 6pm or so, then sleeps for an hour and is awake until about 10pm - 11pm. I just don't know what it is, I always have to think back and wonder if I had coffee or something?!

But it's ok, she helps me type!

Anna loves smacking the keyboard - she lunges at it. She also dribbles all over it too, so now my 'N' gets stuck.

Also, Anna loves being in the nuddy. This photo reminds me of Parenthood - the little kid that wanted to wear the hat all the time, only I'm making Anna wear it 'cause it's cute!

As an update on her development: she's crawling, only backwards. She rolls over confidently and we often have to go roll her back over in her cot. She talks and sings so much. She's sitting momentarily and is very happy to be on her tummy. She's very alert, constantly looking and touching things - she even tries to grab things out of reach. I've had to take down the flower sun catcher in her room because she gets so distracted by it! And she's very keen on food - she's tried lots, and we've found she LOVES chocolate!

We're having so much fun being a little family!

With love,
