Busy Body

Over the past week Anna has been a very social butterfly and has been very busy.

Last week, she got her shots, which was an experience for all of us. Mum couldn't hold Anna while she got needles in each leg, so Pa held her, but Mum was there for a big hug after it was all done. I think Anna screamed so loud she may have scared all the other little bubbies waiting anxiously for their turn. But I'm very proud of Anna, she did very well. Unfortunately she had a mild reaction to the vaccines so she had rather bad diarrhea for the next week or so, and has messed up her good sleeping routine completely, so were back to 1am, 3am and 5am feeds again.

Then we had Rechelle's farwell party. We're going to miss Rech and the boys heaps but no doubt we'll see them plenty and Anna and the twins can have lots of play dates. Best of luck with everything :)

Later in the week, Nanna Lou came over for Mum to do her makeup - Anna had a lot of creative input, she was very helpful!

Then we went over to Pa and Tiff's for dinner and to see Gavin, Jennifer and Danielle. It's always nice introducing little Anna to people, and Danielle was kind enough to donate all of her baby clothes, toys and books to Anna. Anna and Danielle played on the floor together.

Anna has also hit a few milestones this week - we got a real roll-over. And she is talking so much now. And the hair on top of her head is finally starting to grow back. Each week she's changing so much, like she's a whole new baby. So many exciting times to come!

What a busy week. Anna and Mum have 'mum's group' this week - should be interesting.

Love you Anna.

Play Date With Little Ava

Or big Ava in comparison to Anna. This week, Anna went over to Nanna Lou's house to meet up with Lee and her 4 month old bub Ava. Anna and Ava had lots of fun :)

We went out for a bite to eat at The Bean Counter, and Mum and Lee swapped baby stories about feeding, sleeping and growing - poos, surprisingly didn't come up in conversation.

It was really nice to give Ava a cuddle, she's much bigger than Anna so its like hugging a nice cuddly teddy bear. She gave us lots of smiles and babbling, something which Anna tried to copy. After Ava left, we noticed Anna cooing and gargling more than usual.

And even though Ava is 2 months older than Anna, they have the same sized feet!

Nanna Lou was in heaven!

2 Months Old

Just as Anna is reaching her 2 month old mark, I thought I'd just put up some photos of her.

She's now sucking her thumb and is getting quite good at it.

She's pushing up on her arms, and is trying to roll over - we got one roll so far.
She's a very good feeder - she'll take just about anything; boob, bottle, mum's milk or formula.

And she's being a very good sleeper too :)

What an amazing 2 months it has been!

2010 - The Year of More Sleep!

Hey all,

Just a quick post today to sum up the past few weeks that I've missed. It's been New Years Eve and we've hit a few milestones in Anna's development too!

Our little family kept our new years celebrations to a minimum this year. We were over at Lauren's little pad to watch the fireworks from her balcony as she's got an awesome view of the whole city. And as you're all aware, it was a rainy, stormy night, which evidently resulted in the power going out for about 2 hours - It was restored at about 11:15. So in the mean time, Lauren, Jason, Adam, Anna and I sat in the candle lit lounge room, some of us on the floor as Lauren has only one couch (though we are getting used to that - somehow Lauren and Jason always end up on the floor). It was an interesting New Years, but Anna didn't seem to mind the power being out.

After our countdown to midnight (Anna just squeezed in a feed about 15 mins before 12, and fell asleep on Daddy's lap for the fireworks) we headed over to Nanna's place to crash for the night as we were exhausted. Nanna Lou was kind enough to look after Anna over night while Mummy and Daddy got some well deserved sleep - Anna didn't hold back for anyone! Nanna got to sleep at 8am.

Previously to this night, we had been really struggling with Anna at night time. She'd just cry and cry and cry and would be up basically all night, maybe giving me about half an hours sleep at a time, and only once or twice a night. Then Nanna practiced some tough love with Anna, and though she didn't sleep, she had learnt that she's not always going to get picked up when she cries. Since then, Anna's sleeping has improved dramatically. Progressively, her length of sleep was extending by half an hour every night, so that now she is sleeping through. Her best night has been her sleep from 8pm till 7:15am (with a dream feed at 10 - that means she sleeps through whilst feeding) and has been so pleasant lately. She generally doesn't kick up a fuss either when putting her down.

We've been following the recommended sleep routines from Tizzy Hall's 'Save Our Sleep', which I've found to be an excellent book and since starting Anna on these routines, she's been a much happier baby. With the exception of last night, where it was 43 yesterday and still 40 degrees at 8pm last night so none of us slept, she has been sleeping soundly every night without fuss and it has made Adam and I feel 100 times better. We've sort of got out lives back on track, cos you get a bit derailed in the first few weeks of a new arrival.

Anna is also smiling so much and is laughing too. Its the most splendid thing to see - when she looks up at you, right into your eyes and gives you a big, gummy smile, and you know 'she knows me'.

Oh and the poor little bub - I gave her the fright of her life when I sneezed while she was dozing off while feeding. I've never heard her scream so loudly or high pitched. I gave her big cuddles to calm her down. As much as it was distressing to see my little angel get so scared, it was quite an awakening, as it showed that she was responsive, and she felt things, like fear. just reminded me that she's human and not a little thing that cries when she's hungry. It was really connecting to feel that, oddly enough.

And she's rolled over, once. And is starting to reach out and knock things over with her hands - she's got her favourite toy, a frog music box that she's now knocking over. She loves it! And she also love 'Nuddy Time' - we've been letting her play on the floor in the nud, and she stretches her arms and legs out, so to say 'I'm free'!

Well, our little baby girl is now 2 months old. Oh how time flies. Next thing I know I'll be teaching her to drive a car.

Off to get her immunisations this week - well, not me. Pa's taking her, cos I just can't. :(

We're so proud of you, our little angel - keep sleeping well for Mummy and Daddy.

With love,

Mum and Dad.x
