Shhh! Sleeping Baby

I thought I'd give you all an insight to Anna's world of sleep.

She doesn't particularly like falling asleep, as most babies don't, and will always put up a fight - but a quick surrender to a dummy. Its so sweet to see how much comfort she gets out of the dummy.

Sometimes, if she's sleepy, but not sleepy enough, I'll sit with her for 20 minutes until she's happy to fall asleep. Its really quite a nice time, watching her doze off - the hands come up to rub her eyes, the little tired sighs and long yawns, the arms slowly flop, and she keeps one eye open, just to make sure I'm still there. Then I'll wrap her up in an angel wrap and she goes down with no protest - those are the best nights :)

Sometimes, during the night, I'll wake to one mighty 'Waaah'...but only one. This makes me laugh - I think she's upset that she had fallen asleep, but is too tired to fuss about it - back off to dreamland.

Sometimes she does wake up in the middle of the night if she's kicked off her blankets and she's cold. Silly Silly! In fact - every morning when I go to pick her up, the blankets are off, and she's at the other end of the cot.

Anna is a very light sleeper - any slight noise, like the creek of a chair or shutting her door and she'd wake up. Despite our efforts to have her get used to a noisy environment, such as having the iDock in the nursery, we find we have to tiptoe around while Anna is asleep. She must get that from me - you could drop a pin and I'd wake up.

In the mornings, the sun is up and is just coming through her curtains, it makes the room feel so warm and welcoming, and she always greets me with a smile, even if it's interrupting a hungry cry. Sometimes I'll wake up before she does and wonder why she hasn't called for me yet - I'll go in and catch her talking away to Heather and Oscar, happy just to lay there.

And recently, when I go in to pick her up and wonder why she's let me sleep in a bit, I catch her sucking away on her little thumb. She's mastered the art.

She's giving me about 7 hours every night now. She knows its bedtime. She's so smart :)

Love you baby.

With love,

Mum and Dad.x
